IMPLEMENTATION MONITORING FIELD VISIT-NRC-NORAD PROJECT ADAMAWA STATE.

The Executive Director of Concern on Climate Change for the Community Initiative (FOURCi), and the project team visit yesterday to Chikito community in Fufore Local Government Area of Adamawa State. This visit is part of our ongoing Project in collaboration with Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) with funding from NORAD on a project Enhancing Sustainable Livelihood of conflict-affected Population in Adamawa state. The Project aimed at addressing the challenges posed by climate change and promoting sustainable agriculture practices.

Our visit was specifically focused on the farmers who had undergone training in climate-smart agriculture. It was heartening to witness the enthusiasm and dedication displayed by the farmers as they translated theory into practice, showcasing their newly acquired knowledge and skills. Chikito community has truly become a beacon of hope for climate-resilient agriculture.

One remarkable aspect that caught my attention was the adept use of the straight-row method for planting. The farmers demonstrated a profound understanding of this technique, highlighting its effectiveness in maximizing land use, optimizing water resources, and promoting efficient crop management. It was evident that the training had empowered them to adopt innovative approaches to enhance their agricultural practices.

What struck me the most was the community’s fervor for irrigation farming. In the face of climate uncertainties, the farmers of Chikito have embraced the importance of irrigation as a tool to mitigate the impacts of erratic rainfall patterns. Their commitment to water management not only ensures a consistent water supply for their crops but also serves as a testament to their resilience in adapting to changing climate conditions.

As the Executive Director, I commend the Chikito farmers for their proactive approach and commendable efforts towards building a sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural community. Their dedication is not only ensuring food security but also setting an example for neighboring communities to follow suit.

The success story of Chikito is a testament to the effectiveness of community-driven initiatives and the impact they can have on fostering positive change. FOURCi remains committed to supporting and empowering farmers in their journey towards sustainable and climate-smart agriculture.

In conclusion, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Chikito community for their warm welcome and for being inspiring ambassadors of climate-smart agriculture. Together, let us continue our collective efforts in building a resilient and sustainable future for agriculture.
