On this year’s World Environment Day, themed “Beating Plastic Pollution,” the Concern on Climate Change for the Community Initiative (FOURCi) rallied the people of Maiduguri to take bold action against one of the planet’s most pressing crises.

At FOURCi’s Head Office in Maiduguri, Executive Director Bala Gabriel Abraham delivered a powerful keynote address, calling for an end to single-use plastics and championing sustainable alternatives. The event was not just a celebration but a movement—a collective pledge to protect our environment, our health, and our future.

Highlights of the Day:

  • Eco-Friendly Solutions: FOURCi unveiled eco-friendly paper bags as a sustainable alternative to plastic, marking the start of a campaign to expand this initiative across the Bay States and beyond.
  • Youth in Action: Six schools from Maiduguri showcased their creativity by displaying reusable crafts made from recycled plastics, proving that innovation and environmental stewardship go hand-in-hand.
  • A Unified Call: The event emphasized the need for collaboration among households, businesses, and government agencies to reduce waste, support local innovation, and invest in prevention.

Quotable Moment:
“The change we seek is not in the distant future. It is in the bag we choose to carry today, the bottle we refill, and the habits we are bold enough to change.” — Executive Director, FOURCi
